N.C. Medical Board records showed that the doctor has a history of administrative actions taken against him. Between March and May, detectives found evidence that James Alistair Mitchell was selling oxycodone to people who did not need it for legitimate medical purposes. The warrant did not specify where or to whom Mitchell was selling the narcotics. Mitchell, 50, of the 500 block of Grand Wailea Drive in Hope Mills, was charged with 11 counts of prescribing a controlled substance without a legal medical purpose and 11 counts of conspiring to traffic opium or heroin, an arrest warrant said.
